The Mahamuni Pagoda in Mandalay will be reopened as soon as possible for devotees to visit and pay respects, according to U Mya Win, Chairman of the Mahamuni Pagoda Board of Trustees.

The powerful earthquake that struck on 28 March caused damage within the pagoda compound. However, efforts are underway to restore the Mahamuni Pagoda quickly so that worshippers can visit again soon.

U Mya Win stated, “The Maha Muni Buddha image itself was not damaged by the earthquake. However, some structures, including the archways, corridors, main platform, and certain smaller stupas, suffered damage. A few visitors sustained minor injuries during the tremor, but as of now, there have been no reported fatalities. Security personnel and local philanthropic groups are working together to clear debris.
