CAMBODIA IN PICTURES: 50 m high Buddha statue inaugurated

2 years in the making, a 50 meter high Buddha statue was officially unveiled at the weekend.

The statue is located at Wat Keo Vichey, Wat Preah Mekun, in Keo Vichey Village, Kandieng Commune, Kandieng District, Pursat Province.

It was officially inaugurated as a public property under the presidency of Mr. Suy Sem and his wife and Mr. Khoy Rida, Governor Of the Board of Governors of Pursat Province.

The 49.90-meter-tall Buddha statue , which signifies “God forgives people and animals”, took more than two years to complete and cost more than $ 500,000 to build.

The 18-day Buddhist unveiling ceremony was organized by Brahma Phiroth Keo Kan, the provincial chief and chief priest of Keo Vichea pagoda, and was attended by a large number of Buddhists day and night.

It should be noted that in addition to participating in the construction of the huge Buddha statue above, Mr. Suy Sem and his wife donated 20 million Riels, Mr. Khoy Rida and his wife donated 6 million Riels and Buddhists from private companies participated in the festival.
